The weather suddenly turned cold on 25th ,and therefore the stalls which sell foods made on the spot were removed to the corridors inside the teaching building.Just as Venus, one of the bazaar organizers said, this bazaar aims to raise funds for the disadvantaged so that they can feel cared for by our community. So the corridor bazaar started off.
At this bazaar, the boys did a surprisingly good job by showing us their different talents and skills. Actually, most of the students who had made preparations for the bazaar in the cooking classroom were boys. Various delicious foods were being sold at the bazaar, such as Japanese oden, spicy and sour rice noodles, barbecue, teriyaki balls, whipped cream, and even a live talent show, all warming up such a chilly Monday.
Sunee, Jacky and Eric, members of the students’ union and also volunteers for this bazaar sat in the hallway much earlier before the bazaar began so as to help exchange tokens for us.
The first area was filled with stalls which sold snacks cooked on the spot.
Tempura cooked on the spot by Class 2 Grade 12 were highly praised by all their customers.
More than half a dozen kinds of snacks were displayed on the stalls put up by Grade 12. After I walked around each stall and classroom and turned back, to my surprise, they were sold out!
The spicy and sour rice noodles cooked by Class 2 Grade 11 gave off tempting smell in the teaching building. No doubt, it was very advisable of them to use such a business strategy---- selling soda drinks like cola and the rice noodles at the same time.
Grade 9 students pushed a dining car while peddling on the way, on which teriyaki balls cooked by themselves were displayed.
The second area was characterized by stalls selling all kinds of handicrafts.
In front of the classrooms far away from the food areas, the stalls were occupied by all kinds of cute items like dolls, which are very likely to bring back one’s childhood memories. So these stalls were surrounded by customers immediately after the bazaar began.
In the middle hall of the teaching building, items donated by our parents to this bazaar were displayed. Some parents who came to our school in person that day visited the food areas and tasted foods cooked by kids themselves.
Paintings hanging on the wall painted by Emily Liu were instantly sold to Mr. Beau and other teachers.
The third part of the bazaar was indoor games and outdoor singing for “a living”
Students’ laughter added more fun to the ring-toss game organized by Class 3 Grade 10.
At a corner, a shooting game on the wall was attracting Principal Bowen as well as our kids.
At the other end of the food area, Sam and Jared were singing with passion to the melodies of their own guitars. Someone passed by, listened quietly for a while, and put down 10 yuan into the guitar case in front of them.
Slowly, their duet turned into a trio. From the other end of the corridor, violin music could be heard.
Another stall was set up in the library. However, the great distance from the “downtown” made it rather unpopular.
The bazaar ended at 4:30 pm. Students at various stalls slowly packed all their supplies and tools. On the one hand, students showed their talents by participating in the bazaar and designing items to be sold by themselves. On the other hand, those charity funds raised by our kids meant their care and public spirit for the community. Through participation in the bazaar, they will learn the significance of repaying the community and caring for the disadvantaged.
