今天，我们在这里隆重举行上海宏润博源学校2019毕业典礼!首先，请允许我代表学校，向努力学习、收获硕果的毕业生们和你们的家长表示热烈的祝贺!向为你们的成长、成才用心工作的全体老师表示衷心的感谢!向百忙当中抽空前来的各位朋友表示诚挚的谢意!

Today, we are here to celebrate the 2019 commencement of Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School. First of all, on behalf of the school, I would like to extend congratulations to the graduates for your hard work and achievements and congratulations to your parents as well; I also would like to extend thanks to our dedicated faculty team, who have helped you grow and succeed, and thanks to the guests and friends who are here with us today.

总校长致词

在中国，“教育”一词最早起源于《孟子·尽心上》一书。讲到“君子有三乐”时，特别提到其中一乐为“得天下英才而教育之” 。请大家把掌声给我一下，因为我有幸做这一“乐事”37年了。(掌声)哈哈，相信掌声中虽然没有“恨、嫉妒”，应该有不少“羡慕”吧!

In Chinese, the word "educate" originated from the book Mencius, in which it mentions that “There are three things that can make a gentleman happy. One of them is to get the world's talents and educate them.”Since I have been so lucky to have done this happy thing for 37 years, please clap your hands for me. (applause) I know some of you must be envious of me for this.

非常高兴，我们3位毕业生，郭陈、孙晓乐、范伊丹，不仅收获了最为宝贵的成长，而且还取得了非常理想的升学结果。在此让我们以热烈的掌声，再次对这3位同学的努力表示祝贺!今天所有的掌声，应该都属于你们!

I am very happy that our three graduates, Rainee Guo, Giant Sun, and Shiro Fan, not only have grown a lot, but also

have made satisfying achievements in college application. Now, again, let's congratulate them with a big round of applause. All the applause today belongs to you, our three graduates!

毕业典礼，在英文是“commencement”，是“开端”的意思。毕业，也就是一个新阶段的开始，新的起点，新的人生篇章的开始!祝福你们，我们的毕业生们，相信你们新的人生篇章更灿烂!面对时代趋势的日新月异，身处未来已来的迭代更新，希望你们始终葆有并扩展人生的学习力，让自己面对任何纷繁的场景、潮流时不仅不被迷失，而且能真正识别、判断价值，为我所用。

上海宏润博源学校毕业典礼总校长致词

In English, the word “commencement” not only means the graduation ceremony but also means the start or beginning of things, that is, commencement means the start of a new journey or a new chapter of your life. Best wishes to you, dear graduates! I believe that your new chapter will be even more wonderful. The world of our times is changing fast; futures arrive ever sooner than before. I hope you can always maintain and expand your ability to learn so that in face of various trends, developments, and distractions of the world, you won’t get lost and will be able to make the right judgements for your self-growth.

看着又一届学生即将远行，为他们祝福的同时，回顾了自己的教育生涯。82年进入基础教育领域，93年开始国际化教育，2013年创办国际化学校，这么多年一路走来，经历很多，思考也很多，特别是当下。近十年来，苹果发布了划时代的iPhone4，小米、美团、等超级物种诞生，从此彻底改变了人们的生活方式，也席卷着我们教育工作者的原有认知。爆发式增长、颠覆式创新、4G、人工智能……让我们的教育面对前所未有的冲击与挑战。学校教育迎来了这个时代里让人感觉最坏的社会焦虑。我们追求教育理想的教育工作者，应该怎么办?

We are here to send our best wishes to our graduating class, who will start their new journey soon. Looking at them today, I can’t help recalling my own story as an educator. I started being a teacher in Chinese primary education in 1982, Then in 1993, I started to work in international education and started to run my own international school in 2013. I have gone through a lot and thought a lot about education in all these years, especially now. In the past decade, Apple company launched its epoch-making iPhone 4; the birth of Xiaomi, Meituan, Wechat and some other supper apps has utterly changed people’s life, impacting us educators’ initial understanding about education. Explosive growth, disruptive innovation, 4G, artificial intelligence... all these fast changes have been pressing educators to face unprecedented impacts and challenges. Schools are confronting the worst social anxieties in the best of times. What should us educators who pursue the ideal of education do?

不忘初心，坚守教育的本质。“educate”(教育)一词源于拉丁文“educare”，具有“培养”之意。而“educare”又源于拉丁语“educere”，有“引出”的意思。在德国哲学家雅斯贝尔斯的著作《什么是教育》中，有一句非常诗意的话形容了教育：“教育的本质意味着一棵树摇动一棵树，一朵云推动一朵云，一个灵魂唤醒一个灵魂。”无论发生什么变化，我们要坚持教育的本质-“唤醒”这个“初心”，做国际教育的一股“清流”。在此非常感谢宏润公司董事长郑宏舫和整个集团对我们的信任，让我们心无旁骛前行。

First, I think we should stay true to our initial ideal and stick to the essence of education. The word "educate" is derived from the Latin “educare,” meaning "to educate." The word “educare” comes from another Latin word “educere”, which means to elicit. German philosopher Jaspers once described education poetically in his book View on Education：The essence of education means that a tree shakes another tree, a cloud pushes another cloud, and a soul awakens another soul." No matter what changes take place, we should adhere to the essence of education-“awakening the soul” and stick to our original ideal. We are very grateful for the trust of Hongrun Construction Group, especially its president Mr. Zheng Hongfang. Thanks to them, we can focus on pursuing our educational ideal.

不忘“根本”，努力培养孩子们成为“知书达理”的、会发现问题提出问题的人。所谓“知书”，就是通过教学让孩子学习书本知识、生存技能、生活常理，提高生命的质量。所谓“达理”则是通过教育让孩子们懂得做人的道理，提高综合素养，有责任、守礼仪、懂感恩。“庄稼养根，育人养心”啊。我们Chris校长在宣传片和说明会上常常说到，要培养学生善于发现问题和提出向题的能力。教导孩子们“跳出思维定式”(think out of the box) 。当学会了跳出思维定式，你就会一直向前看，开始学会思考科学技术的新步伐，开始看到世界未来发展的趋势，寻找开拓新时代的路径。

Second, we shall always remember our ultimate goals, and strive to bring up“knowledgeable” and “highly cultured” students. To make our students“Knowledgeable”means to help them learn book knowledge, survival skills, common sense of life so as to improve their quality of life. To make our students“highly cultured”means to help them know the truth of life, improve their overall cultural awareness, conduct themselves properly, and be responsible & grateful. When growing crops, we should nurture the roots; while educating students, we should nurture their heart. Foreign Principal Chris always say that we should cultivate students' ability to find problems and put forward questions. We teach our students to "think out of the box." When you learn how to think outside the box, you can keep looking ahead, start thinking about possible new development of science and technology, see the future trend of the world, and start looking for ways to open up a new era.

今天我们校园的环境非常优美，经常有来访者赞不绝口。但我觉得更值得赞美的是我们拥有一批爱学生、爱教育、用心工作、有梦想的老师!感谢我们的每一位老师：你们使学校赢得了尊严，你们使自己赢得尊严。但我觉得更值得赞美的是，我们有理念超前、和我们同行同道，非常信任我们的家长。你们于我们有知遇之恩，是我们不断努力的动力之一。感谢你们!最后我觉得我们应该赞美的是我们校园真正的主人，我们的同学们。你们使美丽校园充满朝气、充满活力、充满希望、充满美好。

Our visitors often speak highly of our beautiful campus and wonderful facilities, but I think they should praise our teachers more for their love for the students, passion for teaching, dedication in work, and perseverance for educational pursuits. Great thanks to each and every one of our teachers: you have earned dignity for our school and also for yourself. We need also to praise SHBS parents who have far educational visions and trust us. Your trust and support is one of the engines propelling us forward. Thank you. Finally, I think we should praise the real hosts of this campus—the students. It is you that make this beautiful campus full of vigor, vitality, hope and beauty.

我们这次毕业典礼的主题“归来仍是少年”。我们希望我们的毕业生无论多久以后，经历多少风雨，依然像今天一般地憧憬和奋斗。我们也希望我们自己，我们学校，对于教育，依然秉承初心，永远是少年。

The theme of this year’s commencement is “Wise in Years, Young at Heart.” We hope that our graduates can maintain the hope and passion they have today and strive for their dreams no matter how many years passes and what they may encounter in their life. I hope the same goes with our faculty team and our school: we will maintain our initial passion for education, “Wise in Years, Young at Heart.”
