Should puppy love really be banned?

Hello everyone, today I am going to talk about Puppy Love. It is a very common phenomenon. For me it is a very sensitive topic. My parents sometimes ask me some questions about puppy love. For example last Friday when I had dinner with them, my mom asked me: “Are there any student who gets a girl friend or boyfriend in your school?” I am always nervous when they ask me this kind of questions. I really dislike talking with my parents about Puppy Love.

What is puppy love? “It is an informal term for feelings of romantic or platonic love, often felt during childhood and adolescence,” as defined on Wikipedia. Survey indicates that sixty-nine percent of teenagers support puppy love. The average age of starting to have a partner in American high school is 14 years old. Teenagers reaching puberty, it is very normal for them to be attracted and fall in love with a boy or a girl. This is natural for human beings. However, when Chinese parents and teachers know that their children are in love, the first thing they do is to criticize them severely and let them break up. I want to emphasize here that puppy love is not a derogatory term!

I got data on the attitude of parents and teachers about puppy love. Sixty-five percent of parents strenuously object to this, and eighty-seven percent nag the students. I want to ask one question for people who think puppy love is a totally bad behavior. “What age is right to fall in love?” Just as the saying goes: The longer you live, the more you experience. Just like puppy love, the earlier you fall in love, the earlier you will find want kind of people you truly like. You may feel surprised that in China, during spring festival single men and women are afraid to go home. However, it is a very common phenomenon in China. The elder generation always ask them to find a suitable partner and marry young, and let them go blind-dating. Statistically, the average age of being pushed to get married is 25 years old. And most of those forced to marriage experience few puppy loves. Some people are not allowed by their parents to have a partner even when they are in college. Therefore, they don’t have any love experience when they graduate from university. Yet, they are urged to find a partner and settle down shortly. How can they know what kind of person they like most or determine which person is the one who they want to spend the rest of their life with in such short time?

Many people think that puppy love will drag down students’ academic achievement. It is absolutely one-sided story. Actually, puppy lovers can encourage each other and improve themselves. Both adolescent boys and girls want to impress the opposite sex with their certain characteristics or specialties. Boys often motivate themselves to have excellent grades, talk about civility and courtesy, behave freely, be neat and tidy, have the courage to explore the spirit, and have an open mind and a manly temperament. Girls also unconsciously put forward requests for themselves, studying harder and harder, behaving gracefully and generously, treating others with gentleness, being funny, and being self-cultivating. This mutual encouragement has become the driving force for the development of male and female students. Such changes often occur when teenagers fall in love with others. They try to be the best they can be.

My sister fell in love with a boy when she was fifteen years old. She hated academic subjects. The best thing for her was having party with friends at night. She thought that study has no meaning until she found a boyfriend who was totally different from my sister. The boy really enjoyed study and always got A. His dream was to study in Stanford, so my sister worked hard and didn’t go to party any more, because she wants to try her best go to the same collage with her boyfriend. A few years later, they went to the same collage and get married. Love has very strong power. Students will get better and better as long as they find a right partner.
