All the international schools attach great importance to curricular construction, and so does SHBS. But what SHBS differs from others is that we not only values the authentic American High School curricula, but also demands that the courses of Chinese language and culture be conducted in a solid and thorough way. 中国语言与文化课程

At SHBS, students are required to securely master the knowledge about Chinese culture and be highly confident of our nation and our culture so that they will be able to go abroad bearing distinct cultural features and win respect from all over the world by spreading Chinese culture as “ambassadors”. Furthermore, SHBS will strive to serve as a front for enhancing Chinese culture and will invite more friends from around the world to come here, learn and experience Chinese culture under real circumstances,making them “ambassadors” for spreading Chinese culture as well.

Not long ago, a group of Italian exchange students took delight in speaking “standard Mandarin” with Italian accent, reveled in the melodious song of “Jasmine Flower”, marveled at the free and graceful Chinese characters, and lingered on the vicissitudes reflected from the ancient architecture dating back to thousands of years ago. During the short period of 2 weeks, the Italian exchange students attended various classes on Chinese culture, including language, calligraphy, shadow-boxing, Chinese songs and arts, and they also went to some tourist attractions for sightseeing. Finally before going back to Italy, all of them found their visit to China very rewarding. This exchange program succeeded in putting the guideline of spreading Chinese culture into full practice.

在教学实践中，宏润博源跳出传统语文课“寻章摘句”之藩篱，践行“大语文”概念，以中国语言与文化为主轴，融合中外历史、中外文学史，融入诸如时事政经、自然地理、科学技术等跨学科知识。着力培养学生的综合能力和人文素养，引导学生在全球和全人类的维度上审视自我与世界。

To act according to this strategic judgement and educational ideal, SHBS has integrated superior resources, recruited enough teachers and ensured that sufficient class hours have been allocated to each subject. In addition, we have spent a lot of time studying approaches to teaching, developing school-based curricula and focusing on students’ performance in class. For grade 9 and grade 10 students, we make sure that they attend 5 Chinese language classes, 4 shadow-boxing classes every week, and 2 calligraphy classes every other week. We also offer Chinese philosophy class for grade 12 students. In learning ancient Chinese literature, student should pay attention to reading and reflecting on classics, while in learning modern Chinese literature, students should focus on developing their abilities to recite and deliver speeches. Calligraphy and shadow-boxing requires students’ perception through practice, whereas Chinese philosophy inspires students to gain insights into the logical essence of Chinese culture and helps to improve their way of thinking.

中国语言与文化课程

Each class focuses on a particular topic, and is conducted by a particular teacher, and each teacher tries to reach a balance in class between the static lecturing part and the dynamic practising one. While giving Chinese classes, SHBS breaks away from the traditional stereotype of "seeking for chapters and picking out sentences" and put the concept of “General Chinese” into practice. This teaching concept sticks to the learning of Chinese language and culture, into which China’s history, world history, history of Chinese and foreign literature and interdisciplinary knowledge on current affairs, politics and economics, physical geography, science and technology are integrated. This teaching methodology emphasizes the cultivation of students’ overall abilities and their humanistic qualities, and guide them to examine themselves and the world with a global vision and from the perspective of the whole mankind.
