2019年4月1日下午，上海宏润博源学校英语演讲决赛时刻到了。评委组的老师们陆续坐上排，来自四个年级的决赛同学也早已等在礼堂后台，等待双语主持人陈文远和吴宇航同学宣布比赛开始。

On the afternoon of April 1st saw the final round of the English Speech Competition. Members of the judge panel were seated in the first row of the auditorium, while competitors for the final were already waiting at the backstage for Joker Wu and Catherine Chen, the host and hostess, to declare bilingually the start of the competition.

以激情看世界

英语演讲赛按照英语等级分为三组：基础英语组，英语组，文学组。每组演讲结束后进行现场观众投票和评委老师打分。

The competitors for the final were divided into 3 groups according to their own English levels：English Foundation group, English group and Literature group. As soon as competitors from each group finished giving their speeches, judges would grade them, and audience would vote for the champion of that group.

先会走再开跑

首先上台的是基础英语组。唐同学做了开场演讲以自己学习上总想挑战更难的题目为例，讲述了“先学会走，再开始跑”的道理。

The first to compete on the stage were candidates from the English Foundation group. Jason Tang began the competition with his speech entitled “Learn to walk before you can run”, in which he took his own unsuccessful learning practice as an example and explained that he once always wanted to challenge himself with difficult problems above his level, which proved to be futile.

如果我有魔法愿望

沈同学的演讲题目是《如果我有魔法愿望》。她特意戴了一幅大大的黑框卡通眼镜，看起来真地像小魔法师，一上来就吸引了所有人的目光。“如果我有魔法，我想做的件事是把台下的你们都变成土豆，因为现在我有点儿紧张。”

Jessica Shen delivered us her speech “If I had a magic wish...”. She wore a large pair of cartoonish glasses specially for her presentation, and looked as if she were a real little magician. Therefore, she attracted all eyes the minute she walked onto the stage. She said, “If I had magic, the first thing I would wish to do would be to turn all of you into potatoes, for now I feel a little nervous.”

永不放弃

曹同学的演讲题目是《永不放弃》。出场时对着台下一个大大的“英伦绅士”式鞠躬，演讲的时候在台上自信地踱来踱去，讲到一半直接将稿子扔到空中，开始脱稿演讲，很有个性。

Allen Cao gave us a speech “Never Give Up”. Before he started, he bowed to the audience like an English gentleman. While he was speaking, he was walking back and forth confidently on the stage. When he finished half of his speech, he threw away his draft and began to speak without referring to it, showing his marked individuality.

微笑的力量

英语组有六位同学进入决赛。王同学生动描述沙漠遇水故事，谈“充分认识选择的后果”;张同学的《从失败中学习》谈到如何从失败中汲取经验;陈同学的《微笑的力量》让我们感受到她的阳光和积极向上;王同学的《我是吃货我骄傲》让我们感受到“吃货”的快乐源泉;顾同学的《东西方交汇》体现了他的国际化视野与思考;石同学的《LGBT：爱最重要》为同性恋群体的权利发声。

Six candidates from the English group managed to enter the final. Jessie Wang presented us a speech called “Knowing the consequences of choices”, in which she vividly told us a story about finding water source in a desert. Eric Zhang talked about how to draw lessons from failures in his speech “The lesson of failure”. Catherine Chen inspired us with her sunny and optimistic attitude towards life by speaking on the topic “The power of smile”. Olivia Wang shared with us her source of happiness through her speech “So proud to be a foodie”. Murphy Gu showed us his global vision and critical thinking by making his speech “The East and the West”. Yurika Shi argued for the lawful rights of the homosexual population through her speech “LGBT: Love is all that matters”.

克服内心的恐惧

文学组普同学用标准的英式语音讲述了“学会说不”的重要性，那台风，那气场，那种自如，绝对的优胜者;郭陈同学分享了她克服恐惧，发现自我的成长故事;许书阳同学给大家普及了《弗洛伊德的性理论》，非常大胆而有深度的演讲。

Jerry Pu from the Literature group spoke on the importance of saying no with standard British English. He appeared so impressive, calm and at ease on the stage that he really deserved to be the winner of this group. Rainee Guo shared with us her story of overcoming fear and self-discovery. Jimmy Xu introduced to us Freud’s theory of sex by presenting us an audacious and in-depth speech.

思想深度活跃

上海宏润博源学校学子们的思想非常活跃，演讲的题目非常多样，而且对生活的观察和思考都很有深度，也充满了人文情怀。英语演讲比赛是上海宏润博源学校英语活动系列的一部分，与“英语配音比赛”“英语辩论赛”“英语拼写大赛”等活动一起激发同学们学习英语的热情，并学以致用。另，英语活动系列与上周举行的阅读节勾勒出上海宏润博源学校中西文化融合的校园文化特征。

Students from SHBS have active minds, which makes the topics of their speeches diversified. Besides, they observe things closely, have pretty good insights into life and show their humanistic concerns. The English Speech competition is part of a series of English activities of SHBS. Along with the English Dubbing Competition, English Debate, and English Spelling Competition, they serve to motivate students’ enthusiasm for learning English and put what they have learned to good use. Furthermore, SHBS is characterized by a combination of both Chinese and western cultures, which can be demonstrated by the series of English activities as well as the Reading Festival held last week.
